How to Ensure Your Business Isn’t Labeled as Spam Calls

The number of spam calls American’s receive present day have increased significantly. To help combat this, cellular companies have begun marking suspicious numbers as “SpamRisk” on user’s cell phones to avoid answering an unwanted call. According to a survey done by Google, 50% of people received at least one spam call per day, and one third received two or more per day.

Unfortunately, for many businesses, they are grouped in with this as well. Thankfully, several cellular carriers have applications businesses can fill out to be removed from this list.

Verizon Application

T-Mobile Application

It is becoming more and more common for companies to flag suspicious numbers as spam in attempt to alleviate their customers, but this ends up hurting both parties when regular businesses are being flagged as well.

Important calls such as job offers, package information, phone interviews, delivery info are all being lost by the “Spam” label.

For the many Americans having random companies “trying to reach you regarding your car’s extended warranty,” there are steps you can take to be sure that you are removed from call lists. Back in 2002, a law was passed that prohibited telemarketers from calling phone numbers listed on the national do not call list.

The Oklahoma State Department clarifies “The Oklahoma Telemarketer Restriction Act Consumer Registry lists the telephone numbers of Oklahomans who don't want unsolicited telemarketing calls and have properly registered with the Oklahoma Attorney General.”

One downside to this new bill is that is does not make the number of unsolicited calls you receive completely vanish. Telemarketers can still call you for the following reasons:

  • Solicitations for charitable or religious groups;

  • Solicitations for political candidates and causes;

  • Solicitations for not-for-profit organizations organized under 501(c)(3) of the IRS code;

  • Solicitations to arrange a face-to-face meeting between a sales person and consumer;

  • Solicitations from telemarketers with whom the consumer has an established business relationship, which is a business relationship formed in the preceding 24 months by a voluntary, two-way communication. The consumer does not have to purchase goods or services to create an established business relationship. Any inquiry or application by the consumer is sufficientIf you feel as though your rights are being violated by telemarketers who do not reach these qualifications, you can apply  to file an official complaint.

Telemarketers are slowly ruining America. Know your rights and what actions you as a citizen or business can take to be sure they do not affect you.
