Today’s cyber outage has affected flights, banks, and even emergency responders, but we want to be very clear that the outages being experienced today are not related to any security event or cyber security attack.
Following a global cyber outage this morning, countless companies and industries experienced significant disruptions[1]. The outage resulted in grounded flights, service disruptions for banks and broadcasters, and impacts on various other operations [2]. Microsoft acknowledged that the underlying cause of the global outage has been patched, and CrowdStrike CEO George Kurtz took to X to release a statement that the issue had been fixed, but lingering effects on some Office 365 apps and services are still being addressed[3].
Security experts have attributed the outage to an update to Microsoft operating systems by CrowdStrike, a cybersecurity provider. It has been confirmed that this was not a cyber security attack or a security incident. The outage, described as “unprecedented,” has raised concerns about the resilience of critical infrastructure and the potential vulnerabilities in the digital ecosystem[4].
As a provider of Microsoft services to our customers, we at Travis Voice & Data want to assure you that our team is doing what we can to stay apprised of the situation and respond accordingly. The cyber security event seems to have largely affected operations outside of the United States, that being said, you may experience minor delays in these cloud services.
