New Area Code for Oklahoma - How This Will Affect Dialing

As Oklahoma’s population grows yearly, the state will be getting a new area code for the Oklahoma City Metro Area April 24th. In addition to the 405 area code, 572 will now be added for this region to ensure a continuous supply of phone numbers for this fast growing region. While this is not a huge change, there will be a few adjustments Oklahomans must begin making.

Starting April 24th, Oklahomans must begin dialing the full 10 digit phone number for all calls. If you have previously been using just the 7 digits for local calls, your calls will no longer go through unless it’s proceeded with the correct area code.

Examples of other dialings that will be affected include fax machines, PBXs, life safety systems, alarm and security systems, speed dialers, call forwarding settings, voicemail services, and even Internet dial-up numbers.

The 572 area code will be assigned to new numbers starting May 24th. This addition will not require Oklahomans with an existing phone numbers to change numbers or area codes.

Be advised that this will not affect the dialing of 911 as you may continue to still dial the 3 digits to each emergency services.

Start making this a practice in your daily calls in preparation for this change. Be sure to update all business cards, signature lines, and letterhead with your area code. Reach out to our experts at Travis Voice & Data for more information regarding the addition of the 572 area code.
